Ser Franklyn Frey was a knight from House Frey and the brother to Lord Frey of the Crossing during the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen.

Appearance and Character

Franklyn was considered a good tourney fighter.[1] The knight wore grey silks and silver armor, and his horse was a sorrel whose grey silk trapper displayed the twin towers of House Frey.[1]

History

Ser Franklyn participated in the tourney at Ashford Meadow in 209 AC.[3]

As part of the retinue of his brother, Lord Frey, Franklyn attended the marriage of his niece to Lord Ambrose Butterwell at Whitewalls in 212 AC. A drunken Franklyn nearly dropped the bride during the bedding custom.[1]

During the wedding tourney at Whitewalls, Franklyn defeated Ser Harbert Paege after five tilts. Franklyn was defeated by Ser John the Fiddler in his next joust, however, and the victorious hedge knight helped Franklyn to his feet.[1] According to a semi-canon source, Franklyn's defeat may have been suspect because of Lord Frey's involvement in the Second Blackfyre Rebellion,[2] which intended for John, actually Daemon II Blackfyre, to win the competition and claim a dragon egg.[1]

When Prince Aegon Targaryen revealed his identity to Lord Butterwell, Lord Frey departed Whitewalls with his retinue to avoid participating in the faltering rebellion.[1]

Quotes

Ser Franklyn Frey is well regarded along the Green Fork.[1]

Ser Franklyn rode a dapple grey with a flowing silver mane, to match the grey of his silks and the silver of his armor. On shield and surcoat and horse trappings he bore the twin towers of Frey.[1]
