Joffrey Caswell was the Lord of Bitterbridge and the head of House Caswell during the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen. At the time of the Second Blackfyre Rebellion, he was twenty years of age.[3]

Appearance and Character

When he was twenty, Joffrey was thin, a poor rider, and even worse lance. He liked drinking wine.[3]

The centaur of House Caswell was depicted on Joffrey's shield and on the white silk trappings of his horse. He also had a centaur of yellow gold atop his helm.[3]

History

Ser Kyle the Cat, a hedge knight, once served Lord Armond Caswell as a sworn sword. He made the first sword for three-year-old Joffrey, carving a small wooden sword out of pine to fit his hand.[3]

Lord Joffrey attended the wedding tourney at Whitewalls in 212 AC, and he fell asleep in his wine at the wedding feast. The morning after, he faced Ser Kyle in his first joust of the tourney. The hedge knight planned to throw the match in order to compliment Joffrey on his growth as a warrior and then become a Caswell man again. Though Joffrey's horse was slow, his lance was wobbly, and he barely struck Kyle's shoulder, the Cat fell off his horse into the dirt. Joffrey excitedly pumped his lance in the air after his defeat of Kyle.[3]

When Kyle came to Joffrey to pay the forfeit, however, and told him about how he had once made his first sword, Joffrey did not recognize him. Lord Caswell said there was no place at Bitterbridge for knights as feeble as Kyle the Cat had shown himself to be. He still took Kyle's arms, armor, and horse, since Kyle could not pay the ransom for them.[3]

while investigating the Second Blackfyre Rebellion, Ser Duncan the Tall found an inebriated Joffrey among a group of men leaving the great hall of Whitewalls after a feast.[3]

Quotes

Lord Caswell passed out at the table with his face in a puddle of wine, and Lady Vyrwel began to weep, though no one was quite certain as to the cause of her distress.[3]

—thoughts of Duncan the Tall

Kyle: I am sent against Lord Caswell, the very man I came to see.

Duncan: It's a wonder he can sit a horse, after last night. The victory is yours, ser.

Kyle: Oh, no. The cat who wants his bowl of cream must know when to purr and when to show his claws, Ser Duncan. If His Lordship's lance so much as scrapes against my shield, I shall go tumbling to the earth. Afterwards, when I bring my horse and armor to him, I will compliment His Lordship on how much his prowess has grown since I made him his first sword. That will recall me to him, and before the day is out, I shall be a Caswell man again, a knight of Bitterbridge.[3]
