The Arryn fleet is a fleet in the service of House Arryn of the Eyrie.
History
The Kings of Mountain and Vale did not neglect their fleets when they still reigned, which might have counted hundreds of ships at Gulltown alone. There were bloody battles wherein the Arryn fleet turned back slavers from Volantis, ironborn reavers, and pirates from the Stepstones and the Basilisk Isles.[1]
During Aegon's Conquest, a hastily assembled Arryn fleet, augmented by a dozen Braavosi warships, met and defeated the Targaryen fleet in a battle in the waters off Gulltown, resulting in the death of Aegon the Conqueror's admiral, Daemon Velaryon. In response, Aegon's sister, Visenya, descended on her dragon Vhagar and burned the Arryn fleet. Since both fleets were destroyed, the battle was considered a tactical draw, but a strategic defeat for the Targaryens as they were unable to take Gulltown.[2]
For House Arryn, the trouble did not end there, since the Sistermen on the Three Sisters took advantage of the destruction of the Arryn fleet to revolt.[2] This led King Aegon to order Lord Torrhen Stark, his new Warden of the North, to end the Sistermen's Rebellion, but since the Arryn fleet had not yet been rebuilt after Gulltown, Ser Warrick Manderly had to hire a Braavosi fleet to transport his host to the Three Sisters.[3][1]
