The Sistermen's Rebellion was a failed uprising of the Three Sisters against the rule of House Arryn during the Wars of Conquest.

    History

Aegon's Landing and the coronation of King Aegon I Targaryen at the Aegonfort threw the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros into disarray. Aegon's sister, Queen Visenya Targaryen, destroyed the fleet of House Arryn, the Kings of Mountain and Vale, during the battle in the waters off Gulltown.[1] The lords of the Three Sisters, who had sworn allegiance to the Arryns centuries earlier in the War Across the Water,[2] renounced King Ronnel Arryn and named Marla Sunderland as queen.[1] The Arryns eventually submitted to House Targaryen when Visenya landed with Vhagar at the Eyrie, with Ronnel becoming the Warden of the East for King Aegon.[1]

After being anointed by the High Septon in Oldtown, Aegon ordered Lord Torrhen Stark, his new Warden of the North, to end the Sistermen's Rebellion. Since the Arryn fleet had not yet been rebuilt after Gulltown, Ser Warrick Manderly led the northern army to the Bite on galleys hired from Braavos. The Sistermen surrendered instead of fighting when they saw Warrick's fleet and Visenya on her dragon. They deposed Marla for her younger brother, Lord Steffon Sunderland, who yielded the Three Sisters to the Targaryens and Arryns.[3][2]

House Manderly took one of Steffon's sons as a hostage, while House Arryn took the other. After five years of imprisoned exile, Marla had her tongue removed and joined the silent sisters.[3]
