During the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen, several pretenders claimed to be the late Prince Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of King Viserys I Targaryen.[1]
Prelude
During the Dance of the Dragons, Prince Daeron Targaryen fought for the greens and supported his older brother, King Aegon II Targaryen. Daeron the Daring died at the Second Battle of Tumbleton in 130 AC, however. The manner of his death is disputed, with sources claiming he may have been killed by Black Trombo's morningstar, or killed by a man-at-arms with a sword, or burned to death after his tent caught fire.[2]
Aegon II died in the aftermath of the Battle of the Kingsroad, and he was succeeded by King Aegon III Targaryen.[3]
Pretenders
The different versions of Daeron's death, as well as the fact his body was never identified, left room for ambitious people to impersonate him in the following years and create turmoil in the Seven Kingdoms after the Dance. In the end, King Aegon III and his brother, Prince Viserys Targaryen, worked together to deal with the issue, and the claimants were proven to be imposters.[1]
