Marla Sunderland was a noblewoman of House Sunderland who briefly ruled the Three Sisters as queen.[1]
History
At the start of Aegon's Conquest, the lords of the Three Sisters took advantage of the chaos in Westeros and rebelled against young King Ronnel Arryn, installing Lady Marla as their queen and launching the Sistermen's Rebellion.[3] As their fleet had largely been destroyed during the Conquest, the Arryns had little means of quelling the rebellion themselves.[2]
With the Conquest over and the Vale now part of the Seven Kingdoms, King Aegon I Targaryen tasked Lord Torrhen Stark, newly named by the Conqueror as Warden of the North, with suppressing the Sistermen's Rebellion. Led by Ser Warrick Manderly, the northern host sailed to the Three Sisters aboard galleys hired from Braavos. The sight of the sails, and the sudden appearance of Queen Visenya Targaryen mounted on her dragon Vhagar, took the heart out of the Sistermen. Queen Marla was deposed by her own people with her younger brother Steffon bending the knee and renewing fealty to House Arryn.[2] The deposed Marla was exiled and imprisoned. After five years, in 6 AC,[4] she had her tongue removed and ended her days with the silent sisters, tending to the noble dead.[2][1]
