The Braavosi fleet is the fleet of the Free City of Braavos.

Braavos is, together with Volantis, the most powerful of the Free Cities. Their main power is at sea, as the Braavosi fleet of warships is second to none, in addition to a mercantile fleet.[1] The Braavosi fleets dominate the seas northwest of Essos, protected by the warlords belonging to the Sealord.[2]

About

The Arsenal, which houses the fleet of Braavos, is the city's center of shipbuilding.[3] The Arsenal's war galleys are all constructed with the same design, allowing shipbuilders to work on separate parts at the same time and thereby create a galley in a single day.[1]

History

At Bitterweed Bay, the Sealord of Braavos sank the last great war fleet of the Kingdom of Sarnor.[2]

During the Sistermen's Rebellion after the Conquest, the north hired a Braavosi fleet to transport Ser Warrick Manderly's host to the Three Sisters. Queen Marla Sunderland was deposed when the fleet came into sight, and her brother Steffon yielded the islands peacefully.[4][5]

During the Daughters' War, Daeron Velaryon joined his cousin Lord Alyn Velaryon in the attack on the Braavosi fleet in the Stepstones, stationed around Bloodstone. Even though Daeron perished when his ship True Heart went down, this attack was a complete victory for the Velaryon fleet, which captured six galleys and eleven cogs, in addition to sinking more than thirty galleys and the dromond Grand Defiance, the pride of the Sealord's fleet, which was rammed by Alyn's flagship, Queen Rhaenys, earning Alyn the nickname of Oakenfist, who returned to King's Landing as a hero.[6][7]

When Lord Manfryd Mooton negotiated with the Sealord to prevent war after Lord Alyn's attack, the Sealord showed the famed Arsenal to the regent and boasted that Braavos had already replaced their lost ships.[6] In return for a large indemnity, the Sealord agreed to forgive Alyn Oakenfist's attack on the Braavosi fleet. To help pay this indemnity, however, Lord Unwin Peake, the Lord Regent, was forced to borrow from the Iron Bank of Braavos.[6]
