The East Gate[1] or east gate[2] is one of the gates of Winterfell. Situated along the east of the castle, it leads to the kingsroad.[1] The Kingsroad Gate[3] may thus be another name for the same gate.
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
In the aftermath of the sack of Winterfell, Osha and Rickon Stark take the East Gate to the kingsroad when they depart the castle.[1]
A Dance with Dragons
Since the Kingsroad Gate has not been used recently, ice freezes its drawbridge chains.[3] When Lord Roose Bolton, Warden of the North, decides to send the feuding Freys and Manderlys against Stannis Baratheon, he orders the Freys to gather by Winterfell's main gates and the Manderlys by the east gate.[2]
