Maester Luwin's turret,[1][2] sometimes called just the maester's turret[3] or the maester's tower,[4] is a tower at Winterfell. It contains the chambers of the castle's maester, Luwin.

Layout

Maester Luwin's turret is found below the rookery of Winterfell.[3] A covered bridge connects the second floor of the rookery with the fourth floor of the Bell Tower.[5]

Luwin's chambers, found in a large round room, are cluttered and untidy. His tables and chairs are covered with piles of books, and shadow maps are scattered among the rushes. Papers, quills, and pots of ink are spread out as well. Luwin's shelves are lined with stoppered jars. Candle stubs and dried wax decorate much of the furniture, and droppings are left by ravens in the rafters above.[4] The maester sits at a high stool.[3]

Luwin has a balcony which overlooks the castle's yard.[4] He stores his Myrish lens by the terrace door and hangs star charts from the walls.[4]

Quotes

The maester's turret below the rookery was one of Bran's favorite places. Luwin was hopelessly untidy, but his clutter of books and scrolls and bottles was as familiar and comforting to Bran as his bald spot and the flapping sleeves of his loose grey robes. He liked the ravens too.[3]
