Garin is an orphan of the Greenblood. He is named after Prince Garin the Great, a famous leader of the Rhoynar.[2]
Appearance and Character
[edit]Garin is loose-limbed and swarthy. He has a long nose, and a jade stud in one of his ears. He has a golden tooth.[2]
Garin has at least one cousin among the orphans of the Greenblood in Planky Town.[2] Garin dislikes Ser Gerold Dayne, the Knight of High Hermitage.[2]
History
[edit]Garin was the milk-brother of Princess Arianne Martell, as his mother was Arianne's wet nurse, and has been a close friend and companion to her since their early childhood.[2][3] When Arianne and her friends played the shoulder-riding game in the Water Gardens, her favorite steed was Garin, since if she rode him, nobody could defeat them, not even Nymeria Sand and the Archon's green-haired daughter.[3]
When Prince Oberyn Martell brought his niece, Arianne, and his daughters Tyene and Sarella Sand, to Shandystone, Garin accompanied them. At some point, Arianne broke one of Garin's teeth; she gave him a golden tooth to replace it.[2]
Garin claims to have bedded Cedra, a servant at Sunspear.[3]
Recent Events

[edit]Some of the orphans of Planky Town wonder why Prince Quentyn Martell and his friends are traveling under false names and seeking passage across the narrow sea. One of them, Garin's cousin, climbs through Quentyn's window and picks the lock of his strongbox, finding scrolls sealed with House Martell's sigil. The orphan does not break the seal to read them, but informs Arianne Martell,[2][4] who becomes convinced her father, Prince Doran Martell, plans to replace her as heir.[4]
Garin joins the plot of Arianne to crown Princess Myrcella Baratheon as the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. While traveling to their destination, they are intercepted by Areo Hotah, the captain of Doran's guards. Garin is arrested, along with most of his co-conspirators.[2]
While Arianne is confined in the Spear Tower, Garin and the other conspirators are sent to Ghaston Grey to await sentening by Prince Doran. To convince Cedra to help smuggle a letter to Lord Franklyn Fowler, Arianne tells the serving girl that she worries about Garin during his imprisonment. Cedra agrees, but the letter is intercepted and Cedra is reassigned to the Water Gardens.[3]
As punishment for committing treason, Garin is to spend the next two years in Tyrosh, while Prince Doran demands hostages and coin from the other orphans of the Greenblood.[3]
