A Clash of Kings
Th guard is posted at the postern gate near the Tower of Ghosts when Arya Stark makes her escape from Harrenhal with Gendry and Hot Pie. Arya claims that Lord Roose Bolton sent her to give a silver piece to all his guards for their service. Arya takes the iron coin given to her by Jaqen H'ghar and drops it at his feet. When the guard bends to pick it up, she slits his throat with the dagger she stole from Lord Bolton and whispers "valar morghulis."
A Storm of Swords
Having escaped the castle, Arya presumes that someone would find the guard's body, sound the alarm, wake Lord Bolton, and they would discover her missing.[2]
When she is reunited with Harwin, one of her father's men, Arya tells him about the things that happened to her since escaping King's Landing, but leaves out killing the guard and the stableboy because it would be like telling her father.[3] She later worries whether her brother Robb would want her back if he knew about her killing the guard and stableboy.[4]
Arya asks Edric Dayne if he's ever killed anyone. When he says he hasn't and tells her about his experience in the battle at the Mummer's Ford, Arya thinks about the guard, the stableboy and the men who died because of her "weasel soup."[5]
As she approaches Robb's army at the Twins during the Red Wedding, Arya is uneasy because Roose Bolton is part of the army and might know about her killing the guard and have told her mother.[6]

Quotes about the guard
Arya told of Yoren and their escape from King's Landing as well, and much that had happened since, but she left out the stableboy she'd stabbed with Needle, and the guard whose throat she'd cut to get out of Harrenhal. Telling Harwin would be almost like telling her father, and there were some things that she could not bear having her father know.[3]
—thoughts of Arya Stark
Arya didn't know how much Robb would pay for her, though. He was a king now, not the boy she'd left at Winterfell with snow melting in his hair. And if he knew the things she'd done, the stableboy and the guard at Harrenhal and all…[4]
