Harghaz is a Ghiscari animal handler in the fighting pits of Meereen.

A Dance with Dragons
In celebration of the marriage between Queen Daenerys Targaryen and Hizdahr zo Loraq, the fighting pits of Meereen are reopened. Several fights and spectacles take place in Daznak's Pit, and the noise and smell of blood attracts Drogon. The black dragon lands in the pit after a fight between Barsena Blackhair and a boar, and devours both the corpses of the pit fighter and the boar that killed her. Most of the attendees start to run when they see the dragon, but Harghaz, one of the spearmen sent out to drive the boar back to his pen, decides to be a hero, and attacks Drogon. His reasons are unknown; Daenerys conjectures that Harghaz may have loved Barsena, may want vengeance for Hazzea, or simply wants glory.[1] Harghaz wounds Drogon and almost succeeds in killing him, but is set aflame by the dragon when he flies from the pit with Daenerys.[1][4]
To the Yunkai'i and Meereenese who oppose the rule of Daenerys, the would-be dragonslayer is remembered as "Harghaz the Hero".[2][4]

Perhaps he was drunk, or mad. Perhaps he had loved Barsena Blackhair from afar or had heard some whisper of the girl Hazzea. Perhaps he was just some common man who wanted bards to sing of him. He darted forward, his boar spear in his hands. Red sand kicked up beneath his heels, and shouts rang out from the seats. Drogon raised his head, blood dripping from his teeth. The hero leapt onto his back and drove the iron spearpoint down at the base of the dragon's long scaled neck. Dany and Drogon screamed as one.[1]

Half the city is calling the dragonslayer a hero, and the other half spits blood at the mention of his name.[3]
