Lord Darry is the Lord of Darry and head of House Darry.[N 1] He is the father of Ser Raymun,[6] Mariya, and Jeyne Darry.[7][8] His given name has not been mentioned yet.
Character
According to Mariya Darry, her father was loved by his smallfolk.[3]
History
In Lord Darry's days, House Darry stood high in King Aerys II Targaryen's favor.[7] At the start of Robert's Rebellion, the Darrys sided with House Targaryen instead of their liege lord, House Tully.[9] Three of Lord Darry's sons died in the Battle of the Trident.[2] With the fall of the Targaryens, the Darrys lost half their lands, most of their wealth, and almost all their power.[7]
In 298 AC, Castle Darry is run by Ser Raymun Darry.[2] It is possible that Lord Darry was still alive, having retired from active rule in the years after the rebellion, with Raymun being the de facto lord.[5]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Ser Raymun Darry, who is considered Darry's lord by Eddard Stark,[2] dies in the battle at the Mummer's Ford.[10] According to a semi-canon source, Raymun's unnamed father, Lord Darry, dies in the battle as well.[4]
Raymun's son, Lyman Darry, is in attendance when Robb Stark is proclaimed King in the North at Riverrun.[11]
A Clash of Kings
After the Battle of the Camps, Robb allows the riverlords to return to their lands. Lyman recaptures Castle Darry, but he is killed less than a fortnight later in the sack of Darry by Ser Gregor Clegane. Lyman is not formally called "Lord of Darry", but Ser Brynden Tully,[12] Sansa Stark,[13] and a semi-canon source[4] refer to him as Darry's lord.
With Lyman's death, the male line of House Darry is extinguished.[12] The female line still lives through her aunts Mariya and Jeyne Darry,[8] both married to members of House Frey.[14] A bastard cousin remains as well.[13]
A Storm of Swords
When the brotherhood without banners lists victims of House Lannister to the captured Sandor Clegane, Tom of Sevenstreams includes "Ser Raymun, Lord Darry, young Lord Darry".[1] It is unclear if "Lord Darry" and "young Lord Darry" refer respectively to Raymun's unnamed father and son Lyman, or if Ser Raymun is also being called Lord Darry.
Merrett Frey recalls that his father, Lord Walder Frey, had arranged his marriage to Mariya, one of Lord Darry's daughters.[7]
A Feast for Crows
Mariya's daughter, Amerei Frey, becomes Lady of Darry through her marriage to Darry's new lord, Lancel Lannister. Lancel does not show any interest in his lordship or wife, though. Mariya agrees with Ser Jaime Lannister that the smallfolk will not abandon the brotherhood until they come to love Lancel as much as they once loved her father.[3] Jaime considers Raymun to have been Darry's lord.[3]
