Royal apartments
The Royal apartments are the residence of the King of the Seven Kingdoms and his family within Maegor's Holdfast in the Red Keep.
Layout
The royal apartments are located in Maegor's Holdfast. The king's bedchamber has a great canopied bed[1] and twin hearths.[2]
History
During the Faith Militant uprising, two Poor Fellows scaled the walls of the king's manse upon Visenya's Hill and slipped into the royal apartments in an attempt to murder King Aenys I Targaryen, but he is saved by a knight of the Kingsguard.[3][4]
The death of King Viserys I Targaryen in his apartments in Maegor's Holdfast led to the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Queen Alicent Hightower kept his death secret from the public while the green council gathered in her apartments to support the claim of her son, Aegon II Targaryen.[5] After the fall of King's Landing to Aegon II's rival, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, her men found Aegon's wife, the mad Queen Helaena Targaryen, locked in her bedchamber. When they broke down the doors of Aegon's apartments, they discovered only his empty bed and a full chamber pot.[6]
On the night that King Aerys II Targaryen burned his next Hand, Lord Qarlton Chelsted, Jonothor Darry was standing watch outside the royal apartments with Ser Jaime Lannister when Aerys began raping his sister-wife, Queen Rhaella Targaryen. When Jaime stated they should protect her as well, Jon allowed that they should, but not from him.[7]
During the Sack of King's Landing, Ser Gregor Clegane and Ser Amory Lorch scaled the walls of Maegor's Holdfast to make their way to the royal apartments within, where they slew Princess Elia Martell and her children, Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon Targaryen.[8][9]
Recent Events
A Dance with Dragons
After Cersei Lannister's walk of atonement, her uncle, Ser Kevan, the new Hand of the King, keeps her under house arrest in her apartments in Maegor's, awaiting her trial by the Faith of the Seven.[10]
