A Dance with Dragons
Tycho is sent to the Wall to negotiate payment of the debt of the Iron Throne with King Stannis Baratheon. He comes to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea with three ships, and then travels to Castle Black with Queen Selyse. Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, negotiates with Tycho for a loan to purchase food for the winter, and the use of his ships for a voyage. The Night's Watch provides Tycho with guides to reach Stannis, who has left Castle Black.[1]
Tycho travels to Deepwood Motte, where he pays Lady Sybelle Glover a ransom for six ironmen: Tristifer Botley, Fingers, Grimtongue, Qarl the Maid, Rook, and Roggon Rustbeard. The ironborn escort Tycho as he goes through the snow toward Winterfell, looking for Stannis. The king is not there, but Tycho finds Mors Umber outside the gates with some green boys. He takes Theon Greyjoy and Jeyne Poole, who were with Mors Umber after their escape from Winterfell. After three days they arrive at Stannis's camp in a crofters' village. Asha Greyjoy and Ser Clayton Suggs are surprised to see the riders, and Clayton demands to know who they are. Tycho smoothly dismounts his garron, doffs his hat, bows, and identifies himself. Asha laughs to see a Braavosi banker in the fraught situation in Stannis's camp, but Tycho recognizes her and presents her brother Theon to her as a "gift".[3]

Tycho is brought before Stannis, and the two sign an agreement, with Stannis reluctantly acknowledging the Iron Throne's debt to the Iron Bank and Tycho agreeing to loan to Stannis. During the signing, Tycho points out that Stannis's ink has frozen, so the king slashes his own thumb and signs in blood. Stannis has Ser Justin Massey escort Tycho and "Arya Stark" back to the Wall. Afterwards, Justin is to accompany Tycho back to Braavos.[4]

—Tycho, to Jon Snow
I have the honor to be Tycho Nestoris, a humble servant of the Iron Bank of Braavos.[3]
—Tycho, to Clayton Suggs
You are a worse pirate than Salladhor Saan.[4]
—Stannis Baratheon, to Tycho
Stannis drew his dagger. For an instant Theon thought that he meant to stab the banker. You will never get a drop of blood from that one, my lord, he might have told him.[4]
