It has been theorized that Urrathon Night-Walker, a character supposedly living in Qarth in 299 AC, is actually Euron Greyjoy using an alias.

After Daenerys Targaryen burns down the House of the Undying, it is reported that for the first time in a hundred years glass candles are burning in Urrathon's house.[1]

Supporting Evidence

  • Urrathon and similar names (such as Urragon) are common among the ironborn.
  • Euron was exiled in 297 AC, and only returned after the death of his brother, King Balon Greyjoy, in late 299 AC,[2] a timeline that fits with Urrathon being mentioned in Qarth in early 299 AC.[1]
  • Euron has been to Qarth.[3]
  • Another character named Urrathon, High King Urrathon IV Goodbrother, is known as "Badbrother".[4] Some readers have taken this as a hint by George R. R. Martin, as Euron is a bad brother to Balon, Victarion, and Aeron.
    • Urrathon Badbrother was known for his arrogance and impiety, and was opposed by the priests in the kingsmoot.[4][5] The exact same can be said for Euron Greyjoy.
  • Euron being in Qarth after Daenerys had burned down the House of the Undying with her dragons would explain why Euron wants to marry her and claim her dragons.[6] He might even have tried to approach Dany in Qarth, but was stopped by Quaithe, who had warned Dany to beware of those who would seek to control her young dragons,[7] and who later uses glass candles to visit Dany in both Astapor and the Great Pyramid of Meereen.[8][9]
  • Euron chasing Daenerys after she left Qarth would explain how he came to capture the galleys of Pyat Pree and three of his fellow warlocks,[6][10] who also departed Qarth a fortnight after Dany in order to seek revenge on her for burning the House of the Undying.[11]

Euron's eye

  • Urrathon being Euron would mean that the Crow's Eye has a glass candle, so it has been further theorized that Euron's "black eye shining with malice",[12] is actually a glass candle in the shape of an eyeball, which would explain the dark eye mentioned by Benerro, the High Priest of the red temple in Volantis, in reference to something watching Daenerys.[13] However, the dark eye mentioned by Benerro might merely be a figure of speech, and the description of Euron's "black eye shining" comes from his nephew, Theon Greyjoy,[12] who hasn't seen his uncle since Greyjoy's Rebellion.[14]
