Smiths are metalworkers.

Description

Smiths heat and work metals in a forge or a smithy. Smiths are distinguished by the metals they mainly work blacksmith (iron and steel), coppersmith (copper),[1] goldsmith (gold),[2] silversmith (silver),[3] etc. Some smiths are regarded as masters at their craft and superior to common smiths.[4] They wear leather apron.[5]

Culture

Smithyton is the seat of House Shermer in the Reach.[6] House Ironsmith is a noble house from the north.[7]

Coppersmith's Wynd is a street in King's Landing.[8] Most smiths of King's Landing have their forges on the Street of Steel.[9]

Lannisport is known for its goldsmiths[2] while Bear Island have none.[10] White Harbor is known for its silversmiths.[3]

Goldsmiths and jewelers of Braavos shower the courtesans of the city with gifts.[11]

The goldsmiths on the Long Bridge of Volantis have guards at their door.[12]

History

The Three Sage Kings sought after Andal craftsmen. Blacksmiths and stonemasons in particular were handsomely rewarded.[13]

Blacksmiths, goldsmiths and silversmiths benefited from the prosperity and the developping trade under the Old King.[14]

A Clash of Kings

Tyrion Lannister meets with the master smiths of the capital to build a monstrous chain in preparation for the Battle of the Blackwater. They considered this work beneath them at first but obliged the acting Hand of the King in the end.[4]

The silversmiths of Qarth gift rings and chains to Daenerys Targaryen.[15] A wealthy goldsmmith is killed during the riots in King's Landing and his manse is burned.[8]

A Feast for Crows

Just like Queen Cersei Lannister before her,[16] Queen Margaery Tyrell is well-known amongst the city's goldsmiths.[17]
