Tallad, called Tallad the Tall,[1] is a hedge knight of common origin.[3] His personal coat-of-arms is checkered blue and white, with three golden eyes on a black fess.[4][5]

Appearance and Character

Big and strapping,[6] the handsome Tallad is considered a promising young knight.[7][8] Queen Cersei Lannister considers him an oaf.[9]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

Tallad pledges his sword to King Joffrey I Baratheon. Tyrion Lannister and Bronn observe him training at the Red Keep.[4]

A Storm of Swords

After the Battle of the Blackwater, Sansa Stark spies Tallad beating one of the Redwyne twins in the yard.[10] Tallad dances with Sansa at the feast when she weds Tyrion.[11]

Tyrion considers having his lover, Shae, who is disguised as a serving girl, wed Tallad in order to protect her from his sister, Queen Cersei Lannister.[7]

A Feast for Crows

Tallad dances with Megga Tyrell at the feast celebrating the wedding of Margaery Tyrell and King Tommen I Baratheon.[1]

Ser Jaime Lannister spots Tallad practicing at quintain in the yard of the Red Keep, and the sandbag thumps him in the head.[12] On another occasion young Tommen asks to have a turn when Tallad is practicing.[6] Cersei, the Queen Regent, briefly considers naming him master-at-arms for the Red Keep.[6]

Ser Osmund Kettleblack tells Cersei that Tallad is interested in Elinor and Alla Tyrell.[6] Tallad, now a household knight, shows the party of Margaery and Tommen how to fight with a staff during a trip to the kingswood.[13] When the party returns to the capital, Cersei spots Tallad accompanying Alla.[13]

During his torture, the Blue Bard is forced to list those he claims to have been Queen Margaery's secret lovers, including Ser Tallad.[14] Cersei has an arrest warrant signed for Tallad as part of her plans to remove Margaery. The knight wounds three gold cloaks when they come to arrest him, but he is overwhelmed and consigned to the dungeons.[9]

A Dance with Dragons

Ser Tallad is held with the rest of Margaery's falsely accused lovers in a dungeon under the charge of Qyburn.[15]

Quotes

Bronn: Who's the boy in the checkered blue surcoat with the three eyes on his shield?

Tyrion: Some hedge knight. Tallad, he names himself. Why?

Bronn: He's the best of them. But watch him, he falls into a rhythm, delivering the same strokes in the same order each time he attacks. That will be the death of him, the day he faces me.[4]

Ser Tallad's the worst, Osney says. That big oaf don't seem to know if it's Elinor or Alla he wants, but he knows he wants her awful bad.[6]
