The Mad Huntsman, also known as the Huntsman, is a farmer and owner of a pack of dogs from Stoney Sept.[1] His given name is unknown.

Appearance and Character
The Mad Huntsman is stocky, balding, and weak-chinned. He wears patched tan leathers and is considered quarrelsome.[2] He has a wife and a sister.[1]
The Huntsman's pack includes black mastiffs, lean wolfhands, black-and-white sheepdogs, and shaggy brindled dogs.[1]
Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
During the War of the Five Kings, Stoney Sept is attacked by Lannisters. The attackers rape the Mad Huntsman's wife and his sister, torch his crops, eat half his sheep and kill the rest for spite, and slay six of his dogs. The dog carcasses are thrown into his well.[1]
The Mad Huntsman becomes a leader of Stoney Sept after the death of Ser Wilbert at the hands of the Lannisters. A member of the brotherhood without banners,[4] he somewhat alleviates the famine around Stoney Sept by bringing in a flock of sheep.[1]
After Ser Jaime Lannister escapes from Riverrun, a group of northmen rape and murder after failing to find him at Tumbler's Falls. The Mad Huntsman captures these northmen and imprisons them in crow cages at Stoney Sept.[1]
One of the sons of Tom of Sevenstreams joins the Mad Huntsman in search of Jaime.[1] The dozen-strong party catches Sandor Clegane instead, and the Huntsman intends to put the Hound in a crow cage. His dogs feast on the corpse of a fat northman. After a tense confrontation with Lem, Greenbeard, and Anguy, however, the Mad Huntsman reluctantly agrees to take Sandor before his sometime ally,[5] Lord Beric Dondarrion.[2]
After the unhappy Huntsman brings Sandor before Beric in the hollow hill, Sandor denies the Huntsman's claims of having participated in Lannister crimes at Sherrer and Mummer's Ford.[2] The Hound defeats the lightning lord in a trial by battle, but Beric is revived by Thoros of Myr.[2]
Beric sends the Mad Huntsman and Greenbeard to buy grain south of the Mander with gold confiscated from Sandor.[6]
A Feast for Crows
The Huntsman is included among the followers of the late Beric Dondarrion, rather than the supporters of Lady Stoneheart.[5]
