The second sack of Maidenpool occurs during the War of the Five Kings.[1]
Prelude
At the outbreak of the War, the town of Maidenpool was first sacked by "lions", westermen soldiers sworn to the Lannisters.[1]
When Lord Rickard Karstark learns that Catelyn Stark released Ser Jaime Lannister, who had killed two of his sons,[2] Rickard sends his cavalry to scour the riverlands for Jaime, promising the hand of his maiden daughter Alys to whoever brings him Jaime's head.[3] Karstark men search the crownlands and riverlands, including Acorn Hall, Blackbottom Bend, the Hayford road, and Sallydance.[4] Not finding Ser Jaime in Tumbler's Falls, the Karstarks proceed to rape and then kill eight people before being apprehended by the Mad Huntsman, who puts them in crow cages in Stoney Sept.[5]
Battle
A group of Northmen, possibly the Karstarks, sack Maidenpool,[1] and burn down a holy house near the castle.[6] William Mooton, Lord of Maidenpool, again remains in his castle and does not defend the town.[1]
Aftermath
Maidenpool is later sacked by outlaws,[1] while the holy house near Maidenpool is later burned down again, this time by sellswords, most likely the Brave Companions,[6] as Brienne later recalls the Bloody Mummers using a septon for archery practice near Maidenpool.[7]
