The siege of Seagard occurs late in the War of the Five Kings.

Prelude

Prior to Lord Edmure Tully's marriage to Roslin Frey, Robb Stark, the King of the Trident, sends Lord Jason Mallister back to his seat of Seagard. Jason is tasked with using Mallister longships to take Galbart Glover and Maege Mormont into the Neck.[1]

House Frey betrays Robb in the Red Wedding, however, and Jason's son, Patrek, is taken captive at the Twins.

Siege

While the Freys are now supporters of King Joffrey I Baratheon, the Mallisters remain loyal to House Stark. "Black" Walder Frey commands a Frey siege of Seagard.[2] Although Jason resists at first, he yields the castle when Black Walder threatens to hang Patrek before the walls of Seagard.[3]

Aftermath

House Mallister submits to the Iron Throne,[4] but Lord Jason and Patrek are held captive by the Freys within Seagard.[5]
