The Frozen Shore or frozen shore[1] is the western shore of the lands beyond the Wall,[2] with the Bay of Ice and Bear Island to the south.[3] An unnamed river with tributaries flows south through the region to the Bay of Ice and the Sunset Sea.[4]
Inhabitants
[edit]The men of the Frozen Shore are free folk who ride sleds pulled by dogs.[5] Some men wear walrus tusks in their hats and others antlers, with the two groups not getting along.[6]
Some accounts state gods of snow and ice are worshipped on the Frozen Shore.[5]
History
[edit]The ironborn of antiquity controlled the Sunset Sea from the Frozen Shore to the Arbor.[7]
Wildlings from the Frozen Shore have raided Bear Island.[8]
During the reign of King Dorren Stark, Redwyn of the Night's Watch claimed he encountered giants and children of the forest while ranging from the Shadow Tower to Lorn Point.[9][10]
Before Mance Rayder negotiated a peace, the walrus men fought with those of the ice-river clans.[11]

[edit]Mance Rayder, the King-beyond-the-Wall, tells Jon Snow that his cloak of black wool and scarlet silk was a gift from a wildling woman who patched him up. The scarlet silk was her grandmother's most prized possession, which she found in the wreck of a cog from Asshai off the Frozen Shore.[12]
Men of the Frozen Shore are found in Mance's army as it attacks the Wall.[13]
