A Clash of Kings
Emmon is named to the Rainbow Guard of Renly Baratheon.[4]
The night before the hosts of Renly and his brother Stannis are to fight at Storm's End, Emmon and Ser Parmen Crane are guarding Renly's pavilion when Ser Robar Royce returns with Catelyn Stark. During the conversation between Catelyn and Renly, the king is slain by a shadow. When Emmon the Yellow and Robar the Red rush in with men-at-arms, they assume Brienne of Tarth murdered Renly. Emmon attacks Brienne with his axe, but Brienne cuts off the axehead with Renly's sword. While Emmon and Brienne duel with swords, Catelyn convinces Robar that Brienne is innocent. Catelyn strikes Emmon's helmet with an iron brazier and knocks him to the ground, allowing Brienne to escape with Catelyn. Robar remains behind to hold off the other guards.[2]
Ser Loras Tyrell, the Lord Commander of the Rainbow Guard, slays Emmon and Robar in a red rage after finding Renly dead and Brienne missing.[5][6] Before dying, Emmon swears that Brienne was Renly's killer.[5]
A Storm of Swords
Loras joins the Kingsguard. After Ser Jaime Lannister, his Lord Commander, insists upon Brienne's innocence, Loras regrets his killings of Emmon and Robar.[6]
