Prince Gaemon Targaryen was the eleventh child of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen.[2]
Appearance and Character
When he was born, Gaemon was a scrawny thing, almost half the size his brother Vaegon had been at birth. He was named after Gaemon the Glorious, the greatest of the Lords of Dragonstone before the Conquest.[1]
History
Gaemon was born to King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen in 73 AC at the Red Keep in King's Landing. Gaemon was born early, following a long and difficult labor. Though his mother eventually recovered despite the maesters' fears for her life, Gaemon did not and died short of the new year, less than three months old. As with the deaths of his elder siblings, Alysanne took the loss of Gaemon hard and questioned whether his passing was the result of her own failing. Septa Lyra, the queen's close confidant and companion, comforted her and assured her he was in the care of the Mother now.[1]
Years later in 83 AC when Jaehaerys and Alysanne's final child Gael Targaryen was born small and frail, Grand Maester Elysar was so determined that she not suffer the fate of Gaemon or their brother Valerion that he personally nursed her through her first year of life.[1]
Quotes
The little prince is with the Mother Above now, and she will care for him better than we could ever hope to, here in this world of strife and pain.[1]
