A Dance with Dragons

The Red Lamb is a Lhazarene, whom the Dothraki mock as "Lamb Men". He was a slave in Meereen, freed when Daenerys Targaryen conquered the city. The Red Lamb is taken as a squire by Ser Barristan Selmy, and trains in the Great Pyramid to become a knight, fighting with lance and longsword in the Westerosi fashion.[4] Barristan considers the Red Lamb to be one of his best squires, after Larraq and Tumco Lho. Barristan thinks the boy is all ferocity with no technique, but believes with some more training the boy's skill will improve.[3]

When Ser Barristan goes down to the dungeons of the Great Pyramid to tell Gerris Drinkwater and Archibald Yronwood of Quentyn Martell's demise, he takes two newly-made knights with him, the Red Lamb and Ser Tumco.[5]

The Winds of Winter

Ser Barristan resolves to deal with the Yunkish threat in the second siege of Meereen by riding out and meeting the enemy on the field. On the eve of the offensive, he gives a pep talk to his newly anointed knights and the soldiers. Barristan gives the Red Lamb a great silver-banded warhorn, to sound commands across the battlefield. When his talk is interrupted by the arrival of dawn, Barristan orders the Red Lamb to sound the attack.[6]

During the battle, Barristan notes the slave companies of the Yunkish lords are the weakest, and targets Paezhar zo Myraq, the Little Pigeon, and his Herons. The Little Pigeon and his soldiers flee, but Paezhar trips over the fringes of his bird armor, and is caught by the Red Lamb. The Little Pigeon begs for mercy, saying that he will fetch a large ransom. The Red Lamb only says, "I came for blood, not gold", and knocks in Paezhar's head with his mace, splattering blood all over Barristan and the silver.[7]

Quotes

I am not afraid. Should I die, I will go before the Great Shepherd of Lhazar, break his crook across my knee, and say to him, "Why did you make your people lambs, when the world is full of wolves?" Then I will spit into his eye.[6]
