Slate is a rock often grey in color. It is frequently used for roofing or flooring.

Iron, tin, lead, and slate can be found on the mainland near Braavos.[1] The Ibbenese roof their homes with slate or thatch.[2]
House Slate of Blackpool is a noble house in the north.[3][4] The houses of White Harbor have steeply pitched roofs of dark grey slate.[5] A weirwood has burst through the slate floor of the Nightfort.[6]
The roofs of the Maidenvault[7] and the Inn of the Kneeling Man[8] are made of slate. A septry in the riverlands and its brewhouse also have slate roofs.[9]
The Hall of the Hundred Hearths in Harrenhal has a smooth slate floor,[10] and the castle's stables have a long slate roof.[11]

History
The kitchen of the Aegonfort had a slate roof in case of fire.[14]
Prince Joffrey Velaryon is said to have fallen from Syrax onto a steep roof during the Storming of the Dragonpit, with shards of slate then raining down upon the boy.[15]
