Crackclaws are the inhabitants of Crackclaw Point, a peninsula in the northern crownlands of the Seven Kingdoms.[1]
Culture
Crackclaws are regarded as half-wild by the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. They are distrustful of outsiders and their blood feuds run deep and dark.[1]
When fighting, Crackclaws employ their knowledge of the bogs and forests and retreat into caverns when necessary.[1]
History
Crackclaws are descendants of the First Men, ruled by lords established on each valley of Crackclaw Point. They resisted attempts by the petty kings of House Darklyn and House Mooton to annex the peninsula into their domains. During their migration to Westeros, the Andals attempted to conquer the Point but failed due to the resistance of the locals and the hostile terrain. Thus the Andals opted to intermarry their daughters to the local lords.[1]
Champions such as Lord Lucifer Hardy, the Brothers Brune, Old Crackbones and Ser Clarence Crabb would bring peace among the Crackclaws, but these wouldn't last past their lifetimes.[1]
House Celtigar of Claw Isle have also tried to conquer the region and failed.[1]
During the Dance of the Dragons, half-wild Crackclaws of House Crabb and House Brune joined with House Mooton and House Celtigar to retake Rook's Rest for the blacks.[2]
