Crownlands men[1] are natives of the crownlands, an eastern region of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Sworn directly to the Iron Throne,[2] the crownlands were created in the aftermath of Aegon's Conquest.

Ethnicity

What is now the crownlands was settled in antiquity by First Men, with Andals then conquering southern Westeros during their migration to Westeros.[3]

In the days of the Hundred Kingdoms, the mouth of the Blackwater Rush was claimed by the Darklyns of Duskendale, the Masseys of Stonedance, and the river kings of Houses Mudd, Fisher, Bracken, Blackwood, and Hook.[4] The river's mouth was successfully claimed by King Benedict II Justman.[5] Prior to Aegon's Conquest, the Blackwater was disputed by House Hoare, the Kings of the Isles and the Rivers, and House Durrandon, the Storm Kings.[6]

Houses Targaryen, Velaryon, and Celtigar, all families of Valyrian origin, settled at Dragonstone, Driftmark, and Claw Isle, respectively.[6]

King's Landing, the bustling capital of the Seven Kingdoms, is located in the crownlands, and the Iron Throne is found in the throne room of the city's Red Keep.[7] Duskendale is another prominent town on the shores of Blackwater Bay.[8] "Waters" is a common bastard name around the bay.[9]

The Faith of the Seven is the predominant religion of the province, with the High Septon seated at the Great Sept of Baelor in King's Landing.[10]

Crackclaw Point is a rugged peninsula in the northern crownlands. Descending from the First Men,[11] the Crackclaws are considered half wild by some.[12]

The kingswood is divided between the southern crownlands and the northern stormlands. Outlaws have been known to hide in the forested land.[13]

Quotes

Now the city covered the shore as far as Catelyn could see; manses and arbors and granaries, brick storehouses and timbered inns and merchant's stalls, taverns and graveyards and brothels, all piled one on another. She could hear the clamor of the fish market even at this distance. Between the buildings were broad roads lined with trees, wandering crookback streets, and alleys so narrow that two men could not walk abreast.[14]

We're all good dragon men, up Crackclaw way.[11]
