Stormlanders are natives of the stormlands, a region in the southeast of the Seven Kingdoms.
Ethnicity
The stormlands were settled in antiquity by the First Men who drove out the children of the forest.[1] The Storm Kings from House Durrandon of Storm's End were the most powerful of the stormlanders.[2] The coming of the Andals led to wars between the First Men and the invading Andals, with the two peoples eventually coming together after neither could conclusively defeat the other.[3]
Culture
Religion
The First Men of antiquity followed the old gods, but the Faith of the Seven gained ascendancy during the reign of King Ormund III Durrandon.[3]
Customs
The stormlanders have a strong martial tradition, with the marcher lords being especially known for their ferocity.[4][5] The Dornish Marches are well known for their famous bowmen and ballads, and the stormlands are also praised for their seamen and sailors.[5]
Many stormlanders live in moss-covered cottages among the region's rainy woods and green hills.[6] The men of the rainwood have castles which appear to have been grown from the earth.[5]
Stormlanders, especially the marchers,[7][8] can have fierce rivalries with Dornishmen to their south.[9][10]
Noble bastards raised in the stormlands can be given the surname Storm.[11]
Quotes
The people of the stormlands are like unto their weather, it has oft been said: tumultuous, violent, implacable, unpredictable.[12]
