A lemon is a sour fruit produced by the lemon tree. It is a popular fruit throughout the Seven Kingdoms and beyond, and is used primarily for its juice, which has both culinary[1] and cleaning uses.[2]
Culture
Dorne has goods which are uncommon in the rest of the Seven Kingdoms, such as lemons.[3] Some Dornish lemon orchards are watered by a network of old canals.[4] There are lemon trees in the lower terrace of the Great Pyramid in Meereen.[5]
Lemons are used in cuisine, including lemon cream,[6] lemon pies,[7] and lemon cakes.[8]
Lemonsweet is a popular beverage available.[4][9] Stannis Baratheon[10][11] and Gerold Dayne drink lemon water, with the latter taking his unsweetened.[4] Jeor Mormont adds lemon to his morning ale.[12][13] Galazza Galare enjoys lemon juice sweetened with honey.[14]
Lemons can be used as fragrances and in perfumes.[15][16][17][18] Some individuals bathe in lemon water,[19][20] which can also be used to freshen breath.[21]
The arms of House Dalt of Lemonwood are a purple field strewn with lemons.[22][23]
Lem Lemoncloak is named after his yellow cloak.[3]
History
The title High King of Dorne was claimed by some Dornish kings who ruled from a high hall set among lemon trees along the Greenblood.[24]
Duck cooked with cherries and lemons was served during the wedding tourney at Whitewalls.[25]
A Dornish girl once cooked duck with lemons for Anguy.[3]

A Game of Thrones
Daenerys Targaryen thinks longingly of the house with the red door in Braavos, where she had a lemon tree outside her bedroom window.[15] The interior of Drogo's manse in Pentos is scented with lemon and spices.[15]
A Storm of Swords
Sansa Stark's love for lemon cakes is so well known that Varys informs the Tyrell party, who prepare the delicacy for her.[26]
At the Inn of the Kneeling Man, Anguy asks Sharna if they can eat duck with lemons. Sharna is annoyed, as lemons can be grown in Dorne instead of the riverlands.[3]
A Feast for Crows
The air of the Water Gardens is sharp with the smell of lemons.[2] Arriving in Sunspear, Prince Doran Martell's retinue is accosted by townspeople calling for vengeance for his slain brother, Prince Oberyn Martell. The townsfolk pelt lemons, limes, and oranges at Doran's litter, and one of his guards is hit in the eye with a lemon.[2]
Ser Gerold Dayne drinks unsweetened lemonwater during Princess Arianne Martell's rendezvous at Shandystone.[4] One of the midday meals served to Arianne when she is imprisoned atop the Spear Tower is kid roasted with lemon and honey.[27]
At the Gates of the Moon, when Lord Petyr Baelish tells Sansa Stark he has brought her a gift, she asks him if he has brought lemons, as she has promised lemon cake to young Lord Robert Arryn.[28]
A Dance with Dragons
Aboard the Shy Maid, traveling along the Rhoyne, Ysilla cooks a pike on a brazier, squeezing a lemon over it as it sizzles.[29]
At the feast held for Ser Balon Swann in Sunspear, among the seven courses served is a soup made of eggs and lemons.[1]
In the House of Black and White, the kindly man gives Arya Stark a drink that is so tart, she compares it to biting into a lemon.[30]
The Winds of Winter

Petyr acquires every lemon in the Vale of Arryn for a twelve-foot-tall lemon cake in the shape of the Giant's Lance for the feast before a tourney to select the Brotherhood of Winged Knights. He promises Sansa he will send away to Dorne for more.[31]
