Lorence Roxton was a knight from House Roxton and a member of the Kingsguard during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.[1]
Character
Lorence was skilled at arms, and renowned for his chivalry and valor.[1]
History
In 49 AC, the young king Jaehaerys I Targaryen sought to fill five slots within his Kingsguard. At the wedding of his mother Queen Alyssa Velaryon and Lord Rogar Baratheon, Jaehaerys declared that the knights would fight on foot over a position in his Kingsguard. In the subsequent War for the White Cloaks in which hundreds of knights competed for the honor of serving in the Kingsguard, Ser Lorence Roxton was one of the five champions given the white cloak of the Kingsguard, being the only victor from a noble house.[N 1][1]
Lorence and Ser Joffrey Doggett protected Jaehaerys I when the king met with Rogar Baratheon, the Lord of Storm's End, after he had attempted to place Princess Rhaella on the throne.[4] During the tourney celebrating the king's tenth anniversary of his coronation in 58 AC, Lorence was unhorsed by young Ser Ryam Redwyne.[5]
Notes
- ↑ Lorence Roxton is said to be the only victor of the War for the White Cloaks who came from a "lordly house",[1] but it is possible the term "lordly" is used in that context to indicate noble houses in general. As a matter of fact Bold Jon, head of House Roxton at the time of the Dance of the Dragons, is always referred as a knight in Fire & Blood, except once when he claimed the bedchamber and wife of the late Lord Footly.[3]
