Lorent Marbrand was a knight from House Marbrand and a member of the Kingsguard during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen.[2]

In the television adaptation House of the Dragon, Lorent is portrayed by Max Wrottesley.

History

When the Dance of the Dragons began in 129 AC, Ser Lorent and Ser Erryk Cargyll were on Dragonstone and chose to side with Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and the blacks, joining her Queensguard under Ser Steffon Darklyn.[2]

When Ser Steffon died during the Sowing of the Seeds, Queen Rhaenyra named Lorent the Lord Commander of the Queensguard after she ascended to the Iron Throne following the fall of King's Landing. He was tasked with finding six worthy knights to serve beside him in her Queensguard.[3][N 1] After the Treasons of Tumbleton by the Two Betrayers, Lorent was among those who counseled Queen Rhaenyra to arrest the other two baseborn dragonriders, Ser Addam Velaryon and Nettles.[3]

Lorent died during the Riot of King's Landing, leading a hundred knights and men-at-arms into Flea Bottom, of which only sixteen returned. According to Mushroom, Rhaenyra wept when she was told of the manner of Lorent's death. His body was retrieved by his sworn brother Ser Glendon Goode, to prevent the rioters from despoiling it, who succeeded him as Lord Commander.[1]

Notes

  1. Only five out of the six knights chosen by Lorent have been revealed: Glendon Goode, Lyonel Bentley, Harrold Darke, Adrian Redfort, and Loreth Lansdale.
