Stone is the first waycastle defending the Eyrie, seat of House Arryn in the Vale of Arryn, and is the second line of the castle's defense following the Gates of the Moon.
Layout
[edit]The path to Stone on the Giant's Lance is surrounded by forest, including tall pines and grey-green sentinels.[1] The waycastle has a massive ironbound gate and a yard. The stone walls are crowned with iron spikes and its two large round towers rise above a keep. Stone's stables have fresh mules for travelers. The trail then becomes steeper as it continues on to the smaller waycastles Snow and Sky.[2]
History
[edit]Queen Sharra Arryn tripled the size of the garrisons in Stone, Snow, and Sky in preparation for the imminent march of the Targaryen forces against the Vale of Arryn during Aegon's Conquest. Queen Visenya Targaryen evaded them, however, by flying Vhagar to the Eyrie's inner courtyard.[3]

Catelyn Stark stops at Stone while traveling to the Eyrie. It is commanded by a portly knight who greets Mya Stone and offers charred meat and onions to the travelers.[2]
A Feast for Crows
[edit]Sansa Stark and Lord Robert Arryn stop at Stone while descending the Giant's Lance. Myranda Royce suggests staying overnight at the waycastle, but Mya advises them to continue on to the Gates of the Moon because of the possibility of heavy snowfall.[1]
