The Warhammer is a weapon that is used by both foot soldiers and cavalry. They are usually about the same length as a mace, though they can be much longer. The head is made of hardened steel and has a long spike that is good for piercing armor.[1]

Culture

Warhammer is an ironborn longship in the Iron Fleet.[2] King Robert's Hammer, a war galley of four hundred oars,[3] is the largest ship in service with the royal fleet of the Iron Throne.[4]

Tristifer IV Mudd's worn sepulcher at Oldstones depicts him with a beard and bearing a warhammer.[5]

History

The wielder of a warhammer, Hugh Hammer desired to become a king, gaining support from the soldiery who believed a prophecy which spoke of a new king arising once a hammer falls on a dragon.[6][N 1]

King Robert I Baratheon's weapon of choice was his warhammer,[7] which was forged for him by Donal Noye at Storm's End,[8] and which was wielded by him during Robert's Rebellion, using its spike[1] to deal a killing blow against Prince Rhaegar Targaryen in the Battle of the Trident.[9]

On Edric Storm's last name day, Robert sent his bastard son a smaller version of his warhammer.[10]

Renly: Tyrell swords will make me king. Rowan and Tarly and Caron will make me king, with axe and mace and warhammer.[15]

Notes

  1. ↑ The prophecy was not fulfilled by Hugh during the Dance of the Dragons. However, it did come true a century and a half later when Lord Robert Baratheon led a rebellion against the Targaryens and used his warhammer to kill Prince Rhaegar Targaryen at the decisive Battle of the Trident.
