Harrion Karstark, affectionately called Harry by his sister Alys, is a member of House Karstark. He is the eldest son and heir of Rickard Karstark, Lord of Karhold.[3]
Appearance and Character
Harrion is a fierce young man with a beard.[4] He wears a black cloak patterned with white suns.[4]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Harrion accompanies his father, Lord Rickard, and his two brothers, Eddard and Torrhen, to Winterfell when Robb Stark calls the banners in response to the arrest of Eddard Stark in King's Landing. Harrion bows respectfully when welcomed by Bran Stark.[5]
When the northern host reaches the Twins and splits, Harrion is placed under the command of Lord Roose Bolton and marches down the kingsroad. He is captured during the battle on the Green Fork[6] by a hedge knight.[4]
A Clash of Kings
Tyrion Lannister, acting Hand of the King, offers to trade Harrion and Ser Wylis Manderly for Willem Lannister in an exchange of prisoners.[7]
Lord Tywin Lannister holds captives from the battle on the Green Fork at the Tower of Dread in Harrenhal.[4] Arya Stark observes Harrion walking the battlements alone.[4]
After Tywin departs Harrenhal, the castle is taken by Lord Roose Bolton, a bannermen of Robb Stark, King in the North.[8]
A Storm of Swords
Roose sends Harrion, Robett Glover, Ser Helman Tallhart, and other northerners to take Duskendale.[9] They are defeated by Lord Randyll Tarly in the battle at Duskendale, however, and the survivors are attacked by Ser Gregor Clegane while retreating to the kingsroad.[10]
King Robb executes Lord Rickard Karstark for treason after he murders the captive Willem Lannister and Tion Frey at Riverrun. Robb fears this will make him an enemy of Harrion, Rickard's heir.[11] Robb is betrayed by the Freys and Boltons in the Red Wedding.[12]
A Feast for Crows
Harrion is held captive at Maidenpool.[13]
A Dance with Dragons
Harrion remains a captive of the Lannisters at Maidenpool.[3][14]
Arnolf Karstark declares for Stannis Baratheon, hoping that when the Iron Throne learns of this they will execute Harrion, thus making Harrion's sister Alys the heir to Karhold.[15] Arnolf's plan is to wed his son Cregan to Alys and thereby claim Karhold.[1] Arnolf's declaration for Stannis is also a plot orchestrated alongside Roose Bolton; the plan is to turn against Stannis once his forces reach Winterfell.[16]
Arnolf's plot to claim Karhold is ruined when Jon Snow, the new Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, arranges a marriage between Alys and Sigorn, the new Magnar of Thenn. Jon has Cregan imprisoned at Castle Black and has Clydas send a raven to Deepwood Motte in an attempt to warn Stannis of Arnolf's treachery. Cregan, who believes Harrion to be dead, is outraged at Alys marrying a wildling.[3]

No one ransomed the northmen, though. One fat lordling haunted the kitchens, Hot Pie told her, always looking for a morsel. His mustache was so bushy that it covered his mouth, and the clasp that held his cloak was a silver-and-sapphire trident. He belonged to Lord Tywin, but the fierce, bearded young man who liked to walk the battlements alone in a black cloak patterned with white suns had been taken by some hedge knight who meant to get rich off him. Sansa would have known who he was, and the fat one too, but Arya had never taken much interest in titles and sigils.[4]

Brynden: Lord Karstark's heir was at Harrenhal as well. The eldest son, the one the Lannisters took captive on the Green Fork.
Robb: Harrion. His name is Harrion. A king had best know the names of his enemies, don't you think?
Robb: Even if Harrion were that sort, he could never openly forgive his father's killer. His own men would turn on him. These are northmen, Uncle. The north remembers.[11]
Brynden: You know that for a certainty? That this will make young Karstark your enemy?
Robb: What else would he be? I am about to kill his father, he's not like to thank me.
Brynden: He might. There are sons who hate their fathers, and in a stroke you will make him Lord of Karhold.

Harrion Karstark was captive here when we took the castle, did you know? I gave him all the Karhold men still with me and sent him off with Glover. I do hope nothing ill befell him at Duskendale ... else Alys Karstark would be all that remains of Lord Rickard's progeny.[9]
Alys: Harry was a prisoner at Maidenpool when last we heard, but that was almost a year ago. He may be dead as well. I did not know where else to turn but to the last son of Eddard Stark.
Jon: Why not the king? Karhold declared for Stannis.
Alys: My uncle declared for Stannis, in hopes it might provoke the Lannisters to take poor Harry's head. Should my brother die, Karhold should pass to me, but my uncles want my birthright for their own. Once Cregan gets a child by me they won't need me anymore.[3]
