House Bywater is a noble house from the crownlands.

According to semi-canon sources, they blazon their shields with fretty blue on white, three silver fish on a blue chief.[1]

History

When the realm began to turn against King Maegor I Targaryen for Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, Lord Bywater was one of the few lords who gathered at his command.[2] However, when Maegor mysteriously died upon the Iron Throne, Lord Bywater fled to his seat.[3]

Jacelyn Bywater lost a hand fighting in the siege of Pyke during Greyjoy's Rebellion. Afterward he was knighted by King Robert I Baratheon, and he wears an iron hand in place of the one he lost.[4]

Notes

  1. It is not specified which seat Tyrion intended to bestow on Jacelyn: it may be precisely Rosby, since in A Feast for Crows it is revealed that Gyles Rosby had no immediate heirs.
