A Game of Thrones

Martyn attends the Hand's tourney with five other members of House Frey.[3] He is at the Twins when Robb Stark's host arrives at the seat of the Freys.[2]

A Clash of Kings

While Ser Brynden Tully is raiding in the westerlands with the new king, Robb, Martyn commands the outriders in the riverlands. Martyn escorts Catelyn Stark when her party nears Riverrun, telling her of Robb's victory in the Battle of Oxcross.[2]

A Storm of Swords

Catelyn spots Martyn among the Freys who leave Riverrun after news reaches the castle of Robb's marriage with Jeyne Westerling instead of a Frey.[4]

As part of the pact between Lord Tywin Lannister and Lord Walder Frey concerning the betrayal of Robb Stark in the Red Wedding, Joy is to wed a natural son of Walder from House Frey once she is older.[5]
