Danwell Frey is a knight of House Frey, the eighth son of Lord Walder Frey, the third son born of Walder's marriage to Amarei Crakehall. He is married to Wynafrei Whent, with many stillbirths and miscarriages.[2]

History

Ser Danwell rode in the tourney on Prince Joffrey's name day held in King's Landing in 298 AC. He was unhorsed by a hedge knight, which embarrassed his father, Lord Walder Frey.[3]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Ser Danwell attends the Hand's tourney in King's Landing with five of his brothers.[4]

During the parley with Lady Catelyn Stark at the Twins, Danwell and Ser Whalen Frey help their father, Lord Walder Frey, to his chair.[3]

A Clash of Kings

Danwell is a captive of House Lannister,[2] likely having been taken in the battle on the Green Fork. Arya Stark observes four Freys exercising in the Flowstone Yard of Harrenhall and then being ransomed by their kin.[5]

A Storm of Swords

Danwell serves with Lord Roose Bolton at Harrenhal during the War of the Five Kings. He urges Roose to ransom the captured Ser Jaime Lannister back to Riverrun.[6]

Danwell attends the Red Wedding at the Twins. He plays a drinking game with Marq Piper,[7] who is later held captive by the Freys.[8]

A Feast for Crows

Danwell travels to Darry, where his niece Amerei lives with her new husband, Lord Lancel Lannister. Danwell informs Ser Jaime Lannister that packs of wolves attacked his baggage train as they traveled south from the Twins. Danwell thinks it possible that the Reeds gave shelter to Lord Beric Dondarrion and his outlaws.[9]

Quotes

It was, oh, a year ago, no more, Jon Arryn was still the King's Hand, and I went to the city to see my sons ride in the tourney. Stevron and Jared are too old for the lists now, but Danwell and Hosteen rode, Perwyn as well, and a couple of my bastards tried the melee. If I'd known how they'd shame me, I would never have troubled myself to make the journey. Why did I need to ride all that way to see Hosteen knocked off his horse by that Tyrell whelp? I ask you. The boy's half his age, Ser Daisy they call him, something like that. And Danwell was unhorsed by a hedge knight! Some days I wonder if those two are truly mine.[3]
