The taking of Stone Hedge occurred near the start of Dance of the Dragons.
History
House Blackwood declared for Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her blacks when war broke out, while House Bracken supported her half-brother, King Aegon II Targaryen and the greens. Lord Samwell Blackwood sent raiders into Bracken lands, so Lord Humfrey Bracken sent his son, Ser Amos Bracken, to retaliate with a strong force. However, Amos was slain in the Battle of the Burning Mill, and Ser Raylon Rivers led the green survivors back to Bracken territory.[2]
They returned to Stone Hedge only to find that it had been captured in their absence: Prince Daemon Targaryen, riding his dragon Caraxes, had led a strong host of Darrys, Freys, Pipers, and Rootes to the Brackens' castle. With most of the Bracken forces away with Amos and Raylon, the blacks quickly stormed the castle. Humfrey was captured, along with his remaining children, his third wife, and his lowborn paramour. When Raylon returned to Stone Hedge, he yielded to Daemon, ending any green strength in the riverlands.[2]
