Volantene language

Volantene is a language spoken in the Free City of Volantis. Like the languages of all Free Cities, the tongue of Old Volantis is a form of bastard Valyrian.[1][2][3]

Recent Events

A Dance with Dragons

Ser Gerris Drinkwater does not speak Volantene as well as Prince Quentyn Martell. Maester Kedry is fluent in the tongues of all of the Free Cities.[4]

Haldon Halfmaester teaches the Volantene dialect to Young Griff and Tyrion Lannister.[5] Tyrion understands only some of the Volantene he hears in Selhorys[6] and Volantis.[7]

When Daenerys Targaryen, Queen of Meereen, meets with refugees from Astapor, she hears Volantene among the various peoples all saying their word for "Mother".[8]
