Before Mance Rayder made peace between them, Harma once warred with Rattleshirt.[2]

Harma has become a well known raider among the brothers of the Night's Watch.[1]

Recent Events

[edit]

A Clash of Kings

[edit]

Harma the Dogshead is among the leaders of Mance Rayder's army that the Night's Watch are wary of.[3]

A Storm of Swords

[edit]

Harma leads the van of the free folk army that marches south down the Milkwater. Goady creeps up on her camp and spots her with five hundred horsemen. Thoren Smallwood convinces Tumberjon not to shoot Harma with an arrow.[6]

Harma is present when the free folk discover the remains of the camp of the Night's Watch following the fight at the Fist. She is skeptical when Jon Snow reveals that the great ranging is led by Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, and she smirks when Ygritte says she has been sleeping with Jon.[2]

During the wildling assault on the Wall, Harma is spotted near Woodswatch-by-the-Pool.[7]

Harma returns from her raids and feints to the main encampment of Mance's army by Castle Black.[8] When Jon arrives at Mance's tent, she urges Mance to kill him.[8] When rangers from Eastwatch-by-the-Sea appear, Mance has Harma ride against them with thirty raiders. The rangers are followed by the southron host of Stannis Baratheon, however, and one column of armored knights smashes Harma. Later in the battle beneath the Wall, Jon sees someone waving Harma's head on a pole.[8]

A Dance with Dragons

[edit]

Harma's brother Halleck kneels before Stannis and yields her pigs.[5]

Quotes by Harma

[edit]
Harma in the host of Mance Rayder, by Ryan Barger © Fantasy Flight Games

Harma: Kill him. Send his body back up in that cage o' theirs and tell them to send us someone else. I'll keep his head for my standard. A turncloak's worse than a dog.

Varamyr: I warned you he was false. I never did like the smell o' him.
Tormund: Pull in your claws, beastling. The lad's here to hear. You lay a paw on him, might be I'll take me that shadowskin cloak I been wanting.

Harma: Tormund Crowlover. You are a great sack o' wind, old man.[8]

Quotes about Harma

[edit]

Kedge: Harma the Dogshead has the van, the poxy bitch. Goady crept up on her camp and saw her plain by the fire. That fool Tumberjon wanted to pick her off with an arrow, but Smallwood had better sense.

Chett: How many were there, could you tell?

Kedge: Many and more. Twenty, thirty thousand, we didn't stay to count. Harma had five hundred in the van, every one ahorse.[9]

There was Harma Dogshead, a squat keg of a woman with cheeks like slabs of white meat, who hated dogs and killed one every fortnight to make a fresh head for her banner; earless Styr, Magnar of Thenn, whose own people thought him more god than lord; Varamyr Sixskins, a small mouse of a man whose steed was a savage white snow bear that stood thirteen feet tall on its hind legs.[2]

—thoughts of Jon Snow

Behind her stood her banner bearer, holding a pole with a dog's head on it, fresh enough to still be leaking blood.[2]

—thoughts of Jon Snow

Ygritte: You call us thieves, but at least a thief has t' be brave and clever and quick. A kneeler only has t' kneel.
Jon: Harma and the Bag of Bones don't come raiding for fish and apples. They steal swords and axes. Spices, silks, and furs. They grab every coin and ring and jeweled cup they can find, casks of wine in summer and casks of beef in winter, and they take women in any season and carry them off beyond the Wall.[10]

Edd: Just last night I dreamt I was pissing off the Wall when someone decided to give the horn a toot. Not that I'm complaining. It was better than my old dream, where Harma Dogshead was feeding me to her pigs.

Jon: Harma's dead.

Edd: But not the pigs. They look at me the way Slayer used to look at ham.[5]
