Hobert Hightower was a knight from House Hightower during the Dance of the Dragons.[3] He may have been a landed knight.[N 1]
Appearance and Character
Hobert was as stout as he was slow. He did not distinguish himself until late in life.[3] Hobert had a splendid silken pavilion.[2]
History
Hobert fought in the Dance of the Dragons on the side of his kin, King Aegon II Targaryen. He was in charge of the baggage train for his cousin, Lord Ormund Hightower. At the age of sixty, Hobert was given command of the greens' army, as he was the most senior Hightower remaining after Ormund's death in the First Battle of Tumbleton. Prince Daeron Targaryen ordered Hobert to stop the sack of Tumbleton, but Hobert failed miserably.[3]
Along with Lord Unwin Peake, Hobert was a leader of the Caltrops, who conspired to kill the Two Betrayers, Hugh Hammer and Ulf White, after the treacherous dragonseeds announced their intention to take the Iron Throne. During the Second Battle of Tumbleton, one of the Caltrops, Ser Jon Roxton, had killed Hugh Hammer, but Ulf had drunkenly slept through the entire battle. After the battle, Hobert brought two casks of wine to Ulf, one Arbor gold and one Dornish red, to drink while they discussed Ulf's plan to attack King's Landing. As Ulf was known to prefer sweet wines, the Arbor gold was poisoned, and Hobert had intended to reserve the sour red for himself. Unfortunately, Hobert was sweating and stammering and far too enthusiastic, leading the suspicious Ulf to insist that Hobert share the Arbor gold with him. Instead of betraying his allies, Hobert had his squire pour him a cup of wine, drank it, and asked for a second cup. This satisfied Ulf, who quickly drank three cups of the poisoned wine. After Ulf fell unconscious, Hobert tried to make himself vomit, but it was too late. They both died within the hour, their hearts stopped.[2]

- ↑ Horbert Hightower was a member of the Caltrops, a group of conspirators only composed of lords and landed knights from the Reach (Fire & Blood, The Dying of the Dragons: Rhaenyra Overthrown). As Ormund Hightower was the Lord of the Hightower and Hobert is only referred to as "Ser" in the text, it is more likely he was a landed knight.
