The harbor of Gulltown is located within the city of Gulltown in the Vale.
About
Gulltown is located in a fine natural harbor,[1] which offers anchorage to ships traveling from King's Landing to Braavos or the north.[2]
History
Gulltown's harbor was the site of a naval battle between the Targaryen and Arryn fleets during Aegon's Conquest, a draw which delayed the submission of the Vale to King Aegon I Targaryen.[3]
Mother Maris, one of the Seven Speakers, taught generations of orphaned girls at a motherhouse located on a stony island in the harbor of Gulltown,[4] outside the city proper.[5] Many nobles sent their bastard daughters to the motherhouse to be raised, such as the daughter of Alys Turnberry.[6]
During the Arryn succession conflict (134 AC), Alyn Velaryon's fleet easily swept aside the Arryn's sellsails to capture Gulltown's harbor, while Moredo Rogare led a land assault, losing hundreds of men.[4]
Quotes
Nor did the Kings of the Mountain and Vale neglect their fleets. In Gulltown they possessed a fine and formidable natural harbor, and under the Arryns it grew into one of the foremost cities of the Seven Kingdoms.[1]
