An ivy-covered inn is found in an unnamed village along the kingsroad within the crownlands north of King's Landing.
Layout
[edit]The inn, which is covered in ivy, has a common room, stables, a bathhouse, and tubs.[1]
History
[edit]The innkeeper's brother, Lync, was sent to the Wall after taking pepper from Ser Malcolm.[1]
Recent Events
[edit]A Clash of Kings
[edit]Yoren, a wandering crow of the Night's Watch, leads a band of recruits from King's Landing to the Wall, and they stop at the inn, which is crowded with people fleeing south during the War of the Five Kings. Yoren decides they will sleep outside, but encourages his troupe to make use of the inn's bathhouse. Jaqen H'ghar, Rorge, and Biter remain in chains in a wagon near the stables.[1]
In the common room, the innkeeper gives the recruits a round of beer out of appreciation for the Watch. He warns them about increased danger from the War of the Five Kings, and other travelers speak about a great pack of wolves, which makes Arya Stark think of Nymeria. While speaking with Jaqen outside, Arya has a confrontation with Rorge and Biter.[1]
Arya and Gendry prepare to practice their sparring in front of the inn, but they are interrupted by the arrival of six gold cloaks from the Kingsroad, including one whom Arya dubs Broken Nose. The officer leading them presents a warrant to arrest Gendry, but Yoren's recruits come to the youth's defense. Yoren threatens the officer, who decides to lead the outnumbered gold cloaks in retreat.[1]
