Appearance and Character
[edit]The crudest of the bloodriders of Khal Drogo,[1][N 1] Qotho has crooked brown teeth,[3] cruel eyes,[4] and quick hands that like to hurt.[4]
Although Qotho is protective of Drogo, he is also misogynistic.[1][3] Qotho He looks down upon the Lhazareen.[1] Qotho reminds Daenerys Targaryen of her brother, Viserys.[1]
Qotho wields an arakh quickly and deadly,[3] and he also carries a skinning knife.[1] The bloodrider rides a stallion.[3]
Recent Events
[edit]A Game of Thrones
[edit]Daenerys Targaryen sees Qotho with Khal Drogo when she comes to Drogo's manse in Pentos.[5] As a gift at their wedding, Qotho gives a tall, double-curved dragonbone bow.[6]
Qotho is cruel to Doreah and Irri, two of Daenerys's handmaids.[4]
When Viserys Targaryen bares steel during a feast in Vaes Dothrak and threatens Daenerys, Drogo orders his bloodriders to seize him. Qotho pins Viserys while the others disarm him.[7]
Qotho mocks Daenerys when she suggest that captured Lhazareen become wives in Drogo's khalasar and be treated gently by his riders. He unsuccessfully recommends that Mirri Maz Duur be killed for being a maegi.[1]
After the fevered Drogo falls from his horse, Daenerys wants his khalasar to make camp. A furious Qotho reluctantly obeys her command to bring Mirri. When Qotho learns that Drogo's wound has festered, he wants Mirri to be tortured. Qotho threatens Daenerys as well, but Ser Jorah Mormont stands by her.[3]
Daenerys agrees with Mirri's plan to use bloodmagic to save Drogo's life. Drogo's outraged bloodriders try to stop the ceremony, however. Quaro, part of Daenerys's khas, is quickly cut down by Qotho in the ensuing fight. Qotho next faces Jorah, who is armored in chainmail. Qotho is able to wound the slower knight, but his arakh catches on Jorah's hip. Jorah cuts Qotho's forearm and then slashes apart the bloodrider's face.[3]
