Megga Tyrell is a member of a junior branch of House Tyrell.[2] She is the granddaughter of Ser Quentin Tyrell, a cousin of Mace Tyrell, the Lord of Highgarden,[3] and is the only daughter of Ser Olymer Tyrell and his wife, Lysa Meadows. Megga has two older brothers, Raymund and Rickard Tyrell.[3]
Appearance and Character
Megga is round and loud[2] with a boisterous laugh.[4] She is a maiden close in age to Sansa Stark, and has not flowered yet.[2] Megga and Alla Tyrell follow their cousin Elinor, who has already flowered.[2]
Megga does not have a beautiful singing voice. Dreaming of being kissed by a man, she sometimes plays a kissing game with Alla.[2]
Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
Megga is one of Queen Margaery Tyrell's ladies-in-waiting. She is a constant companion of Margaery. She meets and befriends Sansa Stark when she is invited to dinner with the Tyrells.[5]
Megga attends Sansa's marriage to Tyrion Lannister. During the wedding feast, Megga and her cousins ignore the bride to show their dissatisfaction with the match, as the Tyrells had hoped for Sansa to marry Willas Tyrell instead. Megga dances with Prince Tommen Baratheon.[6]
She later attends the feast for Margaery's wedding to Joffrey Baratheon.[7]
A Feast for Crows
Megga attends the wedding of Margaery and Tommen, where she dances with the new king and Ser Tallad the Tall. Taena of Myr tells Queen Regent Cersei Lannister that her maid, Senelle, brings messages to Megga and her cousins.[8]
Margaery's cousins tease Ser Osney Kettleblack about his nose.[9]
Ser Osmund Kettleblack tells Cersei that Margaery often sews with Megga.[10] Taena reports to Cersei that Megga has a new suitor every fortnight, and that she kissed a potboy in the kitchen. There is talk of Megga marrying Lady Bulwer's brother, though she would prefer Ser Mark Mullendore.[11] Mark accompanies Megga during one of Margaery's rides.[11]
Megga sobs when Cersei tells Margaery that Ser Loras Tyrell has been wounded in the siege of Dragonstone.[12]
Due to Queen Cersei's plotting, Megga is arrested by the Faith of the Seven for trumped-up charges of fornication, along with Elinor and Margaery, and held captive in the Great Sept of Baelor. While being taken into custody, Megga sends a septa crashing into the candles and sets her robe afire. When examined by a septa, Megga's maidenhead is found to be broken.[4]
A Dance with Dragons
Almost all of the men named as Margaery's lovers have denied the accusation or recanted, so she and her cousins, including Megga, are handed over by the High Septon to the custody of Lord Randyll Tarly. Randyll swears a holy oath to return them for their trial.[13]
Quotes by Megga
King Joffrey has such beautiful lips, oh, poor Sansa, how your heart must have broken when you lost him. Oh, how you must have wept![2]
—Megga to Sansa Stark
Quotes about Megga
Megga couldn't sing, but she was mad to be kissed. She and Alla played a kissing game sometimes, she confessed, but it wasn't the same as kissing a man, much less a king.[2]
—thoughts of Sansa Stark
Taena: Elinor is promised to the Ambrose boy, but loves to flirt, and Megga has a new suitor every fortnight. Once she kissed a potboy in the kitchen. I have heard talk of her marrying Lady Bulwer's brother, but if Megga were to choose for herself, she would sooner have Mark Mullendore, I am certain.
Cersei: The butterfly knight who lost his arm on the Blackwater? What good is half a man?"
Taena: Megga thinks him sweet. She has asked Lady Margaery to help her find a monkey for him.[11]
