Leo Tyrell, known as Lazy Leo, is a member of House Tyrell, a first cousin of Mace Tyrell, the Lord of Highgarden.[2] He is the second son of Ser Moryn Tyrell, the commander of Oldtown's City Watch.[4] Leo is a novice at the Citadel.[2]
Appearance and Character
Leo has sly hazel eyes and ash-blond hair that falls over one eye,[1][5] coloring that stands out from the traditional brown eyes and brown hair of the Tyrells. He is handsome, with pale skin.[5] Leo has a soft, sly voice.[1]
Leo dresses in satin striped in the Tyrell colors of green and gold. He has worn a black silk half cape, pinned to his shoulder by a jade rose,[1] and a half cape striped in green and gold.[5]
The arrogant and malicious Leo often gives mocking nicknames to his acquaintances, and speaks unpleasantly of Dornishmen and Summer Islanders. He is disliked by his fellow students. Leo sometimes gambles at the Checkered Hazard, to the point of losing all his money and having to beg for drinks from acquaintances. He has been trained to arms, and is known to be deadly with a bravo's blade and dagger.[1]
History
Leo was acquainted with Samwell Tarly during their childhood. Sam does not have fond memories of their interactions.[5]
At some point in their time at the Citadel, Leo nicknamed Alleras "the Sphinx", as he was "a bit of this, a bit of that", like a sphinx is made of multiple creatures. Their fellow students picked up on the nickname,[1] and Alleras himself even uses it.[5] However, Leo's nickname of "Hopfrog" for Mollander (for his clubfoot) is detested.[1]
Recent Events
A Feast for Crows
Leo had been confined to the Citadel for some unspecified offense, but leaves three days early to gamble and drink in the inns of Oldtown. He arrives at the Quill and Tankard, where Alleras, Roone, Armen, Mollander, and Pate have been celebrating Alleras's new link and talking about dragons. Leo confirms that the rumors of the sailors are true, that Daenerys Targaryen is alive and has hatched three living dragons. He also reveals that there is a glass candle burning in the chambers of Archmaester Marwyn. As the others leave the inn, he threatens to take the virginity of Rosey, the girl that Pate has fallen for, but Alleras reassures Pate that if Leo cannot afford to buy wine, he cannot afford a gold dragon to pay Rosey's mother.[1]
Samwell Tarly, newly arrived at the Citadel, recognizes Leo outside the chambers of Marwyn at the Ravenry. Leo is staring intently into a candle flame, and when Alleras asks him if he is searching for his destiny or his death, Leo blinks and replies, "Naked women." Sam is intimidated by Leo, remembering him from their youth, but nevertheless tells him of his deeds in the Night's Watch and that he is now called "Sam the Slayer". Leo laughs, but has no chance to reply as Sam enters Marwyn's chambers.[5]
