The tourney grounds are royal[1] lands where tourneys can be held at King's Landing.

Layout
The grassy[1] grounds are found outside of the southwestern city walls of King's Landing, near the Blackwater Rush[2] and the King's Gate.[3][4] The grounds include fields for jousting, archery, and melee competitions.[5]
History
The tourney for the completion of the Dragonpit was held in 55 AC, with lists raised in the fields found between the Lion Gate and the King's Gate.[6]
A tourney was held at the capital in 98 AC to celebrate the fiftieth year of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen's reign.[7]
To commemorate the fifth anniversary of the marriage between King Viserys I Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower, a great tourney was held in 111 AC. Prince Daemon Targaryen, returning from the Stepstones, circled three times above the tourney grounds on Caraxes before landing and reconciling with Viserys to the cheers of both lords and commons.[7]
A tourney was held in 114 AC to celebrate the marriage of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Ser Laenor Velaryon.[7]
Tourneys were held at the capital in 193 AC and 206 AC.[8] The winter tourney at King's Landing took place in 253 AC.[9]
Lord Tywin Lannister hosted the Anniversary Tourney in honor of King Aerys II Targaryen in 272 AC.[10]
A tourney was held at King's Landing to celebrate the wedding of Robert I Baratheon and Cersei Lannister in 284 AC.[9]
Ser Barristan Selmy was champion at a tourney in King's Landing in 294 AC.[9]
The tourney on Prince Joffrey's name day took place in 298 AC.[11]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
The Hand's tourney is held at the tourney grounds in honor of Lord Eddard Stark's appointment as Hand of the King to Robert I Baratheon.[12]
A Clash of Kings
During the Battle of the Blackwater, Stannis Baratheon lands hundreds of men on the tourney grounds and bring a ram to the King's Gate.[13] Tyrion Lannister leads a detachment of defenders along the Blackwater Rush and sees three galleys beached on the tourney grounds.[2]
A Storm of Swords
Tyrion, condemned for the murder of King Joffrey I Baratheon, is to be beheaded on the old tourney grounds. Ser Jaime Lannister and Lord Varys help Tyrion escape the Red Keep the night before, however.[14]
