The wedding of Aegon Targaryen and Helaena Targaryen occurred in 122 AC at King's Landing between the siblings Prince Aegon Targaryen and Princess Helaena Targaryen.
Background
When Prince Aegon Targaryen was a boy, his mother Alicent Hightower attempted to persuade their father, King Viserys I Targaryen to wed him to his elder sister Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, ten years his senior. Although the half-siblings did not get on well, Alicent argued this as a reason for marriage, but Viserys, believing she wanted to seat her own blood on the throne, did not agree. Rhaenyra would ultimately wed their cousin, Laenor Velaryon. Over the intervening years, the relationship between queen and princess would continue to fray, dividing the court between their respective supporters, the greens and blacks.[1]
Wedding
Ultimately, in 122 AC, King Viserys I wed his son Aegon to his younger sister, Princess Helaena Targaryen, in keeping with the ancient Valyrian traditions of House Targaryen. The wedding took place in King's Landing. Prince Aegon was fifteen, noted for his lazy, sulky mood and his strong appetites for food, wine, and women. At only thirteen, Princess Helaena was said to be a pleasant and happy girl. According to Archmaester Gyldayn, all agreed the new bride would make a fine mother.[1]
Aftermath
The wedding between Aegon and Helaena would soon prove to be fruitful. Barely a year later, Princess Helaena gave birth to the twins Jaehaerys and Jaehaera. The greens at court celebrated that Aegon now had heirs of his own to match the five sons of his half-sister. Yet, although the twins' dragon eggs soon hatched into young dragons, both children had imperfections. Despite becoming both a married man and a father, Prince Aegon's carnal appetites were not curbed, and the fool Mushroom even alleged that he fathered two bastards the same year as his twins.[1]
