The wedding of Cregan Stark and Alysanne Blackwood occurred in 132 AC at Winterfell between Lord Cregan Stark and Lady Alysanne Blackwood.
Background
While accompanying her nephew Benjicot Blackwood at court, Lady Alysanne Blackwood met Lord Cregan Stark and developed a liking for him. This was despite the suspicion of some that she, like her close companion Sabitha Frey, favored the company of other women. Since their first meeting, the two began to seek each other out for company in the hall and yard.[1]
In the aftermath of the murder of King Aegon II Targaryen, Lord Stark, Hand of the King to the as-yet-uncrowned Aegon III Targaryen, declared Lord Corlys Velaryon guilty of the murder and decreed that he should pay for the crime with his death. While the uncrowned boy king Aegon decreed to spare Lord Corlys, Lord Stark would have been within his right to disregard this, as Aegon was not yet officially the king and still only a boy. Yet, in a decision at odds with his known character, he chose not to. According to the fool Mushroom, it was a deal struck with Lady Alysanne Blackwood that changed Lord Cregan's mind. Mushroom gave a detailed account of Alysanne imploring Cregan for mercy. Although he initially argued, he ultimately agreed to grant the boon on the condition that she become his wife. Alysanne agreed to his request. According to Mushroom, it was her intent from the start.[1]
Wedding
In 132 AC, Lord Cregan Stark wed Lady Alysanne Blackwood. Although the north was already in the midst of winter, the bride's nephew, Lord Benjicot Blackwood of Raventree Hall led a retinue up the kingsroad to attend the ceremony at Winterfell. The journey was a challenge and took twice as long as expected, partly due to the fierce snowstorms and partly due to three attacks by bandits on Lord Blackwood's columns. The bandits stole all the wedding gifts. Despite these troubles for the Blackwood guests, the wedding itself was splendid. The couple pledged themselves to each other before the heart tree in the godswood of Winterfell. At the wedding feast Rickon Stark, Lord Cregan's son by his first wife, sang a song for Lady Alysanne.[2]
Aftermath
In the years after their wedding, Cregan Stark and Alysanne Blackwood had four daughters together, Sarra, Alys, Raya, and Myriah. Alyanne would pre-decease her husband, who later wed for a third and final time to his distant kinswoman Lynara Stark.[3]
